Make sure you and your family are prepared and informed during hurricane season.

According to the Ready Campaign hurricane season for the Atlantic area is between June 1st to November 30th.

Whether you are on the coast or further away, hurricane season can affect us all with varying severity. Hurricanes can cause high winds, rain, or even tornadoes further inland than most people might realize.

The Texas Department of State Health Services suggests the following to prepare:

  • Secure your property.
    • Permanent storm shutters offer the best protection for windows.
    • Another option would be to shore up your windows with 5/8" marine plywood
    • Ensure trees and shrubs around your home are well trimmed.
    • Clear loose and clogged rain gutters and downspouts.
    • Secure outdoor furniture, potted plants, lawn ornaments, and bar-b-que grills.
    • Determine how and where to secure your boat, if applicable.
  • Create your Disaster Supply Kit and keep it in an easily accessible place
  • Secure your home, close storm shutters, and secure or bring inside outdoor objects such as grills and patio furniture
  • Turn off propane tanks
  • Ensure a supply of water for sanitary purposes such as cleaning and flushing toilets. Fill the bathtub and other large containers with water
